A 20-year-old man died in a fireball crash on the M62 after letting a friend drive a rented Lamborghini Urus at speeds of up to 143mph in wet, dark conditions. Mohammed Shaan Hussain had hired the supercar and swapped seats with Humaira Batool at traffic lights before the vehicle struck a barrier, flipped and burst into flames near Stott Hall Farm, a well-known landmark in the middle of the motorway. The case has drawn attention to the dangers of high-powered rental vehicles and the consequences of reckless driving on public roads.

Leeds Crown Court heard the Lamborghini was travelling at around 120mph when it passed Stott Hall Farm and came to a standstill just eight seconds later after hitting the barrier. Batool managed to escape the wreckage, telling witnesses the flames had melted her seatbelt, but Hussain was trapped as bystanders' rescue attempts were thwarted by fire ahead of a "very significant explosion". Batool, now 22, denies causing death by dangerous driving and is standing trial, with prosecutors alleging she "deliberately and willingly" drove at excessive speed at night in the rain.
