A 32-year-old man has died after being assaulted on a London Underground platform as he made his way home from Notting Hill Carnival. British Transport Police (BTP) say the attack, which left the victim critically injured before he died in hospital on Tuesday, took place on the Central Line platform at Liverpool Street station as revellers dispersed from the event.

The assault was reported at 10.51pm on Sunday, with the victim thought to have attended the carnival's "family day" beforehand. Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Barking, had already been charged with grievous bodily harm and was due before Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court, but BTP now intends to apply to amend the charge following the man's death, meaning he will appear in court at a later date. The incident came during the carnival's 60th anniversary weekend, attended by an estimated one to two million people, and police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
