## Key points

- Two people were arrested over an alleged attack on a One Nation volunteer.
- The volunteer was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
- The incident comes amid concerns about political violence in Australia.

## Summary

A 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were arrested after a One Nation volunteer was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat outside his home in Torquay, south-west of Melbourne. The volunteer was hospitalised with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening; the incident has drawn condemnation during Victoria’s state election campaign.

One Nation’s Victorian leader said the attack followed the pair interfering with election signs, though police have not detailed a motive. The man was charged with assault offences and remanded in custody, while the boy received a caution. The incident comes amid wider concern in Australia about political debate and threats of violence, following an attack last month on federal MP Helen Haines.
