## Key points

- A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson.
- Authorities have not ruled out a political motive.
- No injuries were reported in the Eagle’s Nest fire.

## Summary

Newly added details identify the suspect as a 33-year-old German citizen who showed signs of mental illness and was taken to a psychiatric facility after his arrest on suspicion of arson. Authorities have not ruled out a political motive, given the Eagle’s Nest’s history as a retreat built for Adolf Hitler.

The fire broke out on Friday evening in the Bavarian Alps, where strong winds made it harder for firefighters to tackle the flames; no injuries were reported. More than 6,000 feet above sea level, the site has operated as a seasonal restaurant and tourist attraction since 1952, with an exhibition on its history.
