Manchester City’s legal battle with the Premier League could trigger widespread financial and legal repercussions, former football executive Christian Purslow has warned. City have reportedly been found guilty of most of 115 alleged financial-rule breaches, and the club is expected to appeal, while possible sanctions include a points deduction, expulsion from the Premier League or a substantial fine.

Purslow said rival clubs could seek compensation for losses suffered over the nine seasons in which City allegedly breached regulations, including missed Premier League, Champions League and relegation-related revenue. Four clubs have reportedly lodged protective claims, while football law expert Paul Gilroy KC called the case a “seismic moment”; officials and the UK Culture Secretary have urged a swift, comprehensive resolution to avoid years of legal uncertainty.
