A Singaporean court has rejected a businessman's attempt to recover S$468,000 ($369,200; £273,260) he spent on his ex-girlfriend during their relationship, ruling that the money was given freely as gifts rather than loans. Chander Agarwal, CEO of a logistics company, sued former flight attendant Felicia Lee after their relationship broke down amid suspicions of infidelity, but the Singapore High Court found he lacked any evidence to support his claim that the payments were interest-free loans she had requested.

Agarwal and Lee met on a flight in 2019 and were together from September 2022 to December 2023. His claims covered S$206,000 in credit card charges, S$129,000 for overseas trips, S$17,000 for a fengshui master and S$20,000 for life insurance premiums. Senior Judge Lee Seiu Kin found Agarwal had consistently showered Lee with expensive gifts and reassured her he expected no repayment, concluding he only pursued the case after growing "embittered" once the relationship soured, and noted his far greater wealth compared with Lee.
