Man plunges to his death after falling eight storeys at apartment complex in Elizabeth Bay

Daily Mail · 1 hour ago

A 40-year-old man has died after falling from an eighth-floor balcony at an apartment complex in Elizabeth Bay, in Sydney's east, during a police visit to the building. Emergency services were called to the unit block on Onslow Avenue just before 8am on Sunday, and the man died at the scene despite treatment from paramedics. The death is now the subject of an investigation, which is standard whenever a fatality occurs in connection with a police operation.

Police had gone to the address as part of ongoing inquiries and were attempting to speak with the man, but instead encountered a 38-year-old woman inside the unit who declined to let them in; she later left while officers remained outside, shortly before the man fell. Detectives from a separate command have taken over the investigation into the circumstances of the fall and any prior police interaction with the man, whose identity has not been released. The case will also be reviewed by the NSW Police Professional Standards Command and monitored by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
