A young man in his 20s has been shot dead in a home invasion in Glen Alpine, in Sydney's south-west, after three masked men allegedly forced their way into a family property in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Three other family members present at the time, believed to be the victim's mother, father and sister, were taken to Campbelltown Police Station following the attack. Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack and are investigating whether it may have been a case of mistaken identity, raising broader concerns about gang-related violence spilling into residential areas.

The break-in occurred shortly before 4am, with the intruders reportedly wearing masks during the assault. Shortly afterwards, an Instagram account linked to Sydney's Coconut Cartel gang posted a message claiming responsibility while suggesting the attackers had targeted the wrong person and the wrong address. Police have not officially confirmed a link between the post and the killing but are said to be examining it as part of their ongoing investigation into the shooting.
