## Key points

- Carrick says Manchester United are not unmanageable.
- He faces pressure after seven winless games.
- United lost 4-1 at Como in midweek.

## Summary

Michael Carrick has rejected the idea that Manchester United are an unmanageable club as he faces mounting pressure after a run of seven games without a win. The head coach’s position is under scrutiny ahead of Sunday’s home match against Bournemouth, following a 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como and public criticism from senior players Lisandro Martínez and Bruno Fernandes.

Carrick called the Como performance unacceptable but disputed claims that his side fail to run or press effectively, saying pressing is only one part of football and running statistics do not decide matches on their own. He said he had spoken with former United managers Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Sir Alex Ferguson, and expressed confidence in his squad to respond. If dismissed, Carrick would be the third United managerial change in as many seasons; eight long-term bosses have left since Ferguson retired in 2013.
