Man Utd reveal proposed 100,000-seater stadium location
Manchester United have revealed the precise location of their proposed 100,000-seater stadium and confirmed they will explore a naming rights deal to help fund the estimated £2bn project. New Stadium Development chief executive Collette Roche set out the plans at the unveiling of a draft masterplan for the wider Old Trafford area, framing the scheme as a "sanity, not vanity" project. The confirmation matters because United carry more than £1.3bn in debt, and how the club funds the stadium without harming affordability or on-pitch spending is a central concern for supporters.
The new stadium would sit 350 yards from the current Old Trafford on land the club acquired last month, within a 370-acre regeneration estimated to create 48,000 jobs and 15,000 homes. The "circus tent" design shown by Sir Jim Ratcliffe in March 2025 was absent, with United set to consult designers Foster and Partners and fans before sharing more in late 2026 or early 2027. Roche declined to give a firm cost, said funding options including debt, equity and outside investors remain open, and insisted no public money would be used for construction. Trafford Council leader Tom Ross added that the project would proceed regardless of the 30 July Greater Manchester mayoral election result.
