## Key points

- Carrick remains Manchester United manager for now.
- United are 16th after consecutive poor performances.
- The club may reassess after a demanding run of fixtures.

## Summary

Manchester United have kept Michael Carrick in charge after two damaging defeats and growing criticism of the team and coaching staff. He will lead the side at Chelsea, as the club gives him and the players an opportunity to improve their form.

United are 16th in the league, with matches against Chelsea, Roma and Aston Villa coming before an international break that could offer a natural point to review the manager’s position. The decision followed discussions involving senior club figures after the 4-1 defeat by Como and a poor performance against Bournemouth; Bruno Fernandes had also publicly questioned Carrick’s tactics.
