Caicedo gives Real Madrid half-time lead over Manchester City
Real Madrid led Manchester City 1-0 at half-time in their Women’s Champions League match, after Linda Caicedo scored in the 30th minute. Madrid had controlled much of the first half with quick, purposeful attacking, leaving City struggling to find their midfielders and generally second-best. The scoreline reflected Madrid’s stronger performance, although City created chances of their own.
Caicedo ran into space behind City’s defence after a pass from Eva Navarro, outpaced Rebecca Knaak and finished into the far corner with her right foot. City’s best chance came when Khadija Shaw headed towards goal, but goalkeeper Merle Frohms tipped the ball over; later, Yui Hasegawa’s shot was blocked by María Méndez. Two stoppages followed head injuries, and the referee added two minutes before the break.
