- Eddie Howe is Wilcox’s preferred successor.
- United have won once in the league this season.

## Summary

Manchester United’s leadership held crisis talks over Michael Carrick’s future after a 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth left the manager’s position in doubt. Carrick said he was not expecting a particular decision and would continue to do his best for the club, while the hierarchy considered whether to sack him.

Director of football Jason Wilcox reportedly favours Eddie Howe as a replacement, citing his Premier League experience; Aston Villa would seek about £20m in compensation for another admired candidate, Unai Emery. Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte are also potential options. United have won once in the league this season and sit 16th; Sunday’s loss was their sixth in 12 matches in all competitions.
