## Key points

- Carrick’s future may hinge on United’s match against Villa.
- United have not won a league game since August.
- Villa have recovered from a poor start but stumbled again.

## Summary

Manchester United face Aston Villa in the final Premier League fixture before the international break, with Michael Carrick under pressure after a poor run of league results. United are winless since beating Ipswich in August, and a low position in the table could put Carrick’s job at risk.

United have one point from their last three league games, while Manchester City have none; since Carrick returned in January, United have won half their league matches. Villa began the season poorly, recovered with six wins in seven matches, then drew with Fulham and lost heavily to Bournemouth and Barcelona. Their recent setbacks have not prompted comparable speculation about Unai Emery’s position.
