Manhattan DA’s office says Luigi Mangione defense spread false claims about murder trial media plan

Fox News · 7 hours ago

Manhattan prosecutors have asked a judge to correct what they describe as false claims made by Luigi Mangione's defence team about media access arrangements for his forthcoming murder trial, and have called on the defence lawyers to observe their ethical obligations. The dispute matters because it adds a new procedural row to the high-profile case, in which Mangione is accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson, and could affect how the trial is reported and broadcast.

The filing, made on a Monday, followed claims by Mangione's lawyers that the court's plan for public and media access breaches his constitutional right to a public trial under the Sixth Amendment. The defence had also alleged that the Manhattan District Attorney's office was involved in deciding which reporters would be granted access, and separately demanded that the trial be broadcast live, raising three specific objections to the current arrangements.
