Netflix has ordered Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a spin-off set in the universe of the cancelled-and-revived sci-fi drama Manifest. The new series will introduce different characters and a separate mystery, allowing Netflix to extend a franchise that retained a substantial fan base after the original show’s NBC cancellation and subsequent Netflix revival.

The story begins when a plane crash-lands in Denver and its passengers have no memory of their identities or origins; a social worker and a Homeland Security agent investigate with them to avert a catastrophe threatening humanity. Manifest creator Jeff Rake will co-create and co-showrun Arrivals with Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, while Warner Bros. Television returns as the studio. Netflix announced the order on 28 August, “828 Day”, exactly five years after revealing its fourth and final season of Manifest.
