The family of Gary “Mani” Mounfield, the late Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist, have criticised promoters planning tribute events using his name without their permission. They said such use is upsetting and disrespectful while the family, including Mani’s sons, are still grieving, and asked organisers and venues to stop using his name, image or likeness without express consent.

The response follows reports that the Manchester tribute concert “Manichester”, held earlier this year at Diecast, may become an annual event from 2027. Organisers said the first event was heavily oversubscribed, while the family said future official memorial events would take place only when they feel the time is right and would be sanctioned and organised by Mani’s sons; Mani died last November aged 63.
