Manoj Bajpayee, Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha’s Gandhi Film Unveils Plot, Adds Saurabh Shukla, Narendra Hirawat (EXCLUSIVE)
Actor Manoj Bajpayee is set to portray Mahatma Gandhi on screen for the first time in a new film directed by Sudhir Mishra, with fresh details now revealed about its plot and expanded creative team. Saurabh Shukla has joined the cast, while Narendra Hirawat and NH Studioz come aboard as producer and presenter respectively, working alongside Anubhav Sinha's Benaras Mediaworks, which is also producing. The project marks Mishra's return to theatrical filmmaking after 2023's "Afwaah" and arrives as he approaches four decades in Hindi cinema.
Rather than covering familiar ground, the film will focus on a little-known 21-day period in Gandhi's life during India's independence, when he chose to step back from Delhi as it became the new centre of power. According to Mishra, the story explores what lay beneath that decision, portraying it not as a retreat but as a personal reinvention. Mishra, a three-time National Film Award winner, and Sinha, known for "Mulk," "Article 15" and "Thappad," bring significant pedigree to the project, which joins Hansal Mehta's separate Gandhi series starring Pratik Gandhi as another screen depiction of the independence leader currently in the works.
