## Key points

- Yankees added Marco Luciano to their 40-man roster.
- His minor league breakthrough renewed interest in his potential.
- He could compete at second base or add outfield depth.

## Summary

The New York Yankees added Marco Luciano to their 40-man roster, preventing the former top prospect from becoming a minor league free agent. His strong season in the minors has revived interest in his potential and gives the Yankees another possible option as they shape next season’s roster.

Luciano, now expected to attend spring training, could compete for time at second base or add depth in the corner outfield. He was once a highly rated Giants prospect, peaking at 13th in MLB Pipeline’s rankings in 2022; in 2020, aged 18, he hit a home run with a 119 mph exit velocity, faster than Aaron Judge’s hardest-hit ball last season.
