The film took Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, while Hargitay also won Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program, capping an extraordinary period for the actress that also includes a Broadway debut and her upcoming role hosting the televised Emmys ceremony.

Accepting her awards on Saturday night in Los Angeles, Hargitay paid tribute to feminist icon Gloria Steinem, who died on Wednesday aged 92, quoting her advice to "tell your own story." My Mom Jayne beat films including John Candy: I Like Me and Ocean with David Attenborough for the documentary special prize, while Hargitay's directing win came ahead of contenders such as Rebecca Miller, whose five-part Martin Scorsese docuseries separately won Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series. The televised Primetime Emmys, which Hargitay is set to host, air on NBC and Peacock on Monday, 14 September.
