A fishing vessel carrying three people struck rocks and capsized near the Golden Gate Bridge's north tower in San Francisco Bay shortly after 6am on Thursday. Daniel Zhengyu Qin, a 35-year-old Apple software engineer and married father of three, was the sole fatality, dying from his injuries despite prolonged resuscitative efforts at hospital. The other two occupants were rescued by emergency responders but sustained serious injuries.

All three people were recovered alive following a response by the US Coast Guard, San Francisco Police Department Marine Unit, and other agencies. Qin leaves behind his wife Yao Deng and three children—an 11-year-old son and daughters aged nine and three—who lived in a $1.7 million San Diego home. A fundraiser organised by family friends aims to raise $200,000 for funeral expenses, children's living costs and emergency family support, and had garnered over $76,500 by Monday afternoon. The precise cause of the crash remains under investigation, with forensic examination and toxicology testing due to be completed within days.
