Comedian and writer Martin Herlihy is leaving Saturday Night Live after five years, marking the end of his run on the NBC sketch show. He joined in 2021 as part of the Please Don't Destroy trio alongside Ben Marshall and John Higgins, becoming known for the group's pre-taped comedy videos before staying on solely as a writer once his colleagues moved into other roles.

Please Don't Destroy's joint run ended a year ago when Marshall was made a full cast member and Higgins departed to pursue acting; Herlihy chose to remain as a writer for Season 51, occasionally appearing in sketches. Marshall is set to continue as a featured player in Season 52, while Higgins has landed acting roles including Scrubs and Stick. Herlihy's father, Tim, had a similarly lengthy SNL writing stint in the 1990s before moving into film with Adam Sandler; Chloe Fineman remains the only cast member confirmed departing ahead of the show's Season 52 premiere on 26 September.
