## Key points

- Loki's Disney+ series is required viewing before Avengers: Doomsday, as the character plays an integral role in the ensemble story
- Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) leads the coming conflict, with the film uniting X-Men, Fantastic Four, and the New Avengers under Thor
- Doomsday is positioned as a major course correction after the MCU's recent mixed reception

## Summary

Marvel's cinematic universe has struggled with inconsistent reception since Avengers: Endgame, but the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday appears designed to reverse this trajectory. The film brings together multiple hero factions—the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and New Avengers—rallying under Thor to confront Doctor Doom, with Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role in a casting that, while initially met with scepticism, shows promise in newly released footage.

Essential preparation for the film requires viewers to watch the Loki Disney+ series, as the God of Mischief represents a crucial plot element in the ensemble story. Though Loki appeared to die heroically in Infinity War whilst attempting to stop Thanos, Endgame established his survival, positioning him for a significant presence in the upcoming Doomsday narrative.
