Ghost Rider starring Ryan Gosling scheduled for 28 July 2028

Marvel Studios has confirmed that its Ryan Gosling-led Ghost Rider film will be released on 28 July 2028, filling in the release date left unspecified when his casting was first announced the previous month. The announcement helps clarify Marvel's release slate for the years immediately following Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, two crossover films expected to significantly reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if studio boss Kevin Feige has stopped short of calling them a full reboot.
Ghost Rider will be the second MCU film released after Secret Wars arrives in December 2027, following an X-Men reboot due on 5 May 2028 that features Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Inde Navarette as Rogue; Black Panther 3, starring David Jonsson, rounds out the year on 15 December 2028. Ghost Rider is directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Deadpool & Wolverine and Gosling's upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, though details such as which comic-book incarnation of the character Gosling will portray remain unconfirmed. The late-July release slot has recently proven successful for Marvel, having hosted Deadpool & Wolverine, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Spider-Man: Brand New Day in previous years, and Marvel also has an as-yet-untitled film pencilled in for 9 November 2029.

Marvel is currently building towards two huge "crossover" films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which bring together characters from across its many separate Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies and are expected to substantially reset or reshape the series afterwards. Studios like Marvel plan their release calendars years in advance, spacing out films so they don't clash and so each has time to build audience interest, which is why release dates are often confirmed well before a film is finished.
Ghost Rider is a supernatural Marvel character, a motorcyclist whose head becomes a flaming skull, who has appeared in earlier non-MCU films but is now being introduced into the mainstream Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Ryan Gosling in the lead role. The film is being made by director Shawn Levy, known for previous Marvel and Gosling projects, though Marvel has not yet said exactly which version of the Ghost Rider character Gosling will play.
This story matters mainly to followers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because it helps map out what the franchise's output will look like in the years immediately after its next two big crossover events, alongside other planned films such as an X-Men reboot and a third Black Panther instalment.
