Marvel’s New ‘Secret Wars’ Release Will Officially Destroy 5 Iconic Universes
Marvel Comics has announced a new five-issue miniseries called Incursions, which revisits the build-up to Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić's original Secret Wars storyline by depicting previously untold battles from the final days of the Marvel multiverse. The announcement comes during a strong year for Marvel more broadly, with successful Disney Plus shows, a scaled-back live-action television slate in favour of animation, and the box-office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day ahead of the anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, giving the publisher fresh momentum to capitalise on with comic readers.
The series will span five separate one-shots, each focused on a different corner of the Marvel Universe: X-Men: Incursions #1 by Alex Paknadel and Jim Towne opens the run, followed by Spider-Man: Incursions #1 from Christos Gage, Fantastic Four: Incursions #1 by Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan and Paco Medina, X-Men '92: Incursions #1 by Chris Yost and Craig Kyle, and finally Avengers: Incursions #1 by Al Ewing and Fran Mariscal Mancilla. Together the issues are billed as chronicling the destruction of five iconic alternate universes as the multiverse collapses towards Secret Wars.
