## Key points

- Polygon previews Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine for PS5.
- Character detail and combat praised as note-perfect; little else stands out.
- Story set pre-X-Men, featuring Team X, Sabertooth, Mystique and Jean Grey.

## Summary

Polygon has published a hands-on preview of Marvel's Wolverine, the PlayStation 5 game from Insomniac Games, based on a session with game director Mike Daly at PlayStation's London offices. The preview praises the studio's meticulous, character-first approach, judging Wolverine's look, movement, combat and characterisation to be note-perfect, while finding little else in the demo especially remarkable beyond this central achievement, including a "mildly clunky" boss fight against a robotic Sentinel.

The demo spanned the game's opening section and a portion from the end of its first act, set before the formation of the X-Men so the story can focus solely on Logan. It features Wolverine working alongside Sabertooth and Mystique in the mutant team Team X, led by Nathaniel Essex (voiced by Troy Baker), on a mission to rescue Essex from tech magnate Bolivar Trask, inventor of the Sentinels. Later sections bring in a Sentinel confrontation, downtime with Jean Grey and other mutants in Madripoor's Lowtown district, and a kidnapping that puts Wolverine on the trail of the ninja group the Hand.
