## Key points

- BioWare has closed and the next Mass Effect game was cancelled.
- Amazon MGM’s TV adaptation remains in development.
- The show is planned to tell a story beyond Commander Shepard.

## Summary

EA’s closure of BioWare and cancellation of the fifth Mass Effect game have cast doubt on the franchise’s future. However, Amazon MGM’s Prime Video series is still in development, offering one possible continuation of the sci-fi universe.

The series has been in the works since 2024 and, according to IGN, its showrunners Doug Jung and Daniel Casey and producers remain involved. The planned show will not centre on Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew. The games’ future may depend on EA selling the rights and another company acquiring them; fans may hear more about the TV series on N7 Day, 7 November.
