Mass shooting at Georgia block party leaves 2 dead, 35 injured
A mass shooting at a Vienna, Georgia block party early Sunday left two people dead and 35 injured, with more than 1,000 people gathered at the time. Over 50 shots were fired from at least two locations about a block apart, with additional gunfire erupting even as sheriff's deputies were on scene around 1:25 a.m. This incident has left the community shocked and authorities searching for those responsible.
The two victims were identified as Jaquevion Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. The 35 injured victims range in age from 14 to 51, with most suffering gunshot wounds whilst several others were hit by cars or suffered other injuries as people fled the scene. The shooting occurred over homecoming weekend for Dooly County High School, though officials confirmed it was not a school-sponsored event. Authorities have not yet arrested any suspects or identified a motive, with the investigation remaining ongoing.
