A gang massacre inside a church in Kenscoff, Haiti, has left at least 40 people dead after armed men attacked displaced people sheltering in the building overnight on Sunday. The town's mayor, Massillon Jean, described execution-style killings, with dozens more wounded and some victims abducted, in the latest atrocity to hit a country already ravaged by prolonged gang violence.

The United Nations put the overall death toll at 47, with 22 more injured, though it cautioned that figures could change. Haiti's prime minister's office expressed condolences to the victims' families and pledged to send security reinforcements to the area, while the national police chief insisted officers had not given up despite being outgunned. Kenscoff, in the hills above Port-au-Prince, has suffered repeated gang attacks since early 2025, when more than 260 people were killed and thousands displaced; residents accused the government of failing to protect them amid a wider crisis that has left around 1.5 million Haitians homeless.
