Masters of the Universe Fans Hope for Sequel After Huge Streaming Debut

IGN · 4 hours ago

Amazon's Masters of the Universe film, which underperformed at the box office earlier this summer, has found a much larger audience since arriving on Prime Video, fuelling fan speculation about a possible sequel. Although the Travis Knight-directed adventure took only $113 million theatrically against a reported $170 million budget, it has since become one of the most-watched titles on streaming, reigniting interest in the franchise Amazon appeared keen to continue via multiple post-credits teases.

Figures reported by The Hollywood Reporter show the film racked up 1.17 billion minutes of watch time on Prime Video in the week ending 26 July, topping Nielsen's streaming chart and becoming one of only two titles that week to pass the billion-minute mark, alongside The Big Bang Theory. The data covers US television viewing only, but the strong numbers have encouraged fans hoping for a follow-up, particularly given a post-credits tease setting up the introduction of She-Ra. Amazon has not confirmed a sequel and there are no casting or production details yet, with a streaming-exclusive release seen as more likely than a theatrical one if it goes ahead.
