## Summary

The fourth season of *The Gilded Age* opened with brief, silent cameos by Matt Damon and David Letterman, who appear together as well-dressed businessmen crossing a street. Their fleeting appearance adds a comic surprise without taking focus from the episode’s main storylines.

The premiere also features Oscar van Rhijn’s marriage to Enid Turner, who reveals her past as Bertha Russell’s maid and says she and Oscar entered the marriage with a clear understanding of his sexuality. Marian and her former fiancé Larry rekindle their relationship after a party, while Peggy celebrates her book’s release. Gladys survives a dangerous childbirth, but doctors perform a hysterectomy to save her life, meaning she cannot have more children naturally.
