Matt Damon has described the Daniels’ forthcoming science-fiction film as a blend of “The Breakfast Club”, “Inception”, anime and an unaired episode of John Oliver’s show. His comments offer the first indication of the project’s tone, suggesting it will combine an ensemble coming-of-age premise with ambitious, surreal ideas and political-comic elements similar to the directors’ previous work.

The Universal film will co-star Sandra Oh, Charles Melton, Michael Gandolfini and others, with production expected to begin in Los Angeles later this year. Its release has been moved from 12 June to 19 November 2027; it is the Daniels’ first film since “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, which earned more than $100 million and won seven Oscars, including Best Picture.

  • Damon calls the film an unusually broad mix of genres and influences.
