## Key points

- Damon passed on *Ted* despite loving its script.
- Filming in Boston would have meant time at home.
- He also missed roles in *The Dark Knight* and *Milk*.

## Summary

Matt Damon says he passed on the lead role in Seth MacFarlane’s 2012 comedy *Ted* after overthinking a script he found exceptionally funny. Mark Wahlberg took the role, and Damon now regrets missing the chance to spend time filming in Boston, where he could have been closer to his family.

Damon said he read parts of the script aloud to friends at dinner, then wondered whether the teddy bear was the stronger part. He has since watched the film and praised both Wahlberg and the movie, while saying he would not have improved it. He also missed roles in *The Dark Knight* and *Milk* because of scheduling conflicts; Josh Brolin ultimately played Dan White in *Milk*.
