Matt Smith is in discussions to return to the Doctor Who universe as a guest on The Pondcast, a forthcoming rewatch podcast hosted by his former co-stars Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. The potential appearance would reunite Smith’s Eleventh Doctor with Amy Pond and Rory Williams, though no recording date or release date has been confirmed.

Gillan said Smith has repeatedly indicated that he wants to take part, while Darvill said they have spoken to him and need only finalise arrangements. The podcast may also feature Alex Kingston, who played River Song, while former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has already been confirmed as a guest; Kingston and Darvill will additionally reunite in a four-part audio drama due in January 2027.
