Matthew Berry has confirmed that he has discussed a possible return to ESPN after leaving the broadcaster in 2022. Any arrangement would likely follow ESPN’s newer approach of working with creators who retain ownership of their own media businesses, making it significant for Berry’s independently owned fantasy-football company, Fantasy Life.

Berry left ESPN partly because it did not support employees running outside media ventures, then joined NBC before leaving to focus on Fantasy Life, which he says is on course for eight-figure annual revenue. He cited ESPN’s deals with Pat McAfee, Rich Eisen, Josh Pate and Bussin’ With The Boys as examples, but stressed that no agreement is imminent; he also expects Fantasy Life to surpass his former ESPN salary by its third year.
