Matthew McConaughey performed a bluegrass-style version of Ella Langley’s country hit ‘Choosin’ Texas’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, joined by Virginia folk group the Last Bison and Fallon on washboard. The appearance promotes McConaughey’s forthcoming film The Rivals of Amziah King and highlights the music-focused collaboration between the actor, the band and the film.

The film, due in cinemas on 14 August, casts McConaughey as an Oklahoma beekeeper and bluegrass musician, with the Last Bison contributing songs and member Ben Hardesty appearing as an actor and composer. Langley’s original spent 15 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, reportedly setting the record for the longest-running non-holiday number one by a solo woman.
