Meet Sweden’s top scorer who hopes to play for Scotland

BBC Sport · 1 month ago

Robbie Ure, a 22-year-old striker born and raised in Glasgow, has become the leading scorer in Sweden's top division after netting all four of his side's goals at the weekend, driving unfashionable IK Sirius to a nine-point lead in the Allsvenskan. The former Rangers forward, who has been capped by Scotland up to Under-19 level, has stated his ambition to play for the Scottish men's side, but he also qualifies for Ukraine through the grandparent rule and has been contacted by them — raising the question of whether Scotland will act before Ukraine does.

Ure has scored 11 goals in 11 games this season, taking his tally to 22 in 41 since joining Sirius in Uppsala in March 2025, including his first-ever hat-trick and four-goal haul in a 4-4 draw with defending champions Mjallby. He left Rangers after just three first-team appearances and one senior goal, then spent 18 months in Belgium's second tier with Anderlecht's B side before moving to Sweden. With scouts watching and interest expected to grow, Ure has ambitions of playing in one of Europe's top five leagues, though he says he remains focused on helping Sirius chase a first top-flight title and would one day love to return to Rangers.
