## Key points

- DSA-aligned candidates are projected to join the House.
- Some have not committed to backing Hakeem Jeffries for speaker.
- Their campaigns featured calls for major progressive policy changes.

## Summary

Several Democratic candidates aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America are projected to enter the US House after winning primaries, as Democrats prepare to take control of the chamber. Their victories could complicate party leaders’ efforts to unite the caucus, with some candidates withholding support for Hakeem Jeffries as speaker pending commitments on progressive policies.

The article profiles candidates including Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez in New York, Donavan McKinney in Michigan, and Melat Kiros in Colorado. Their stated priorities include Medicare for All, universal childcare and reducing corporate influence in elections; the article says the contests reflect an anti-incumbent wave and tensions between the party establishment and its left wing.
