Pakistan’s Mohammed ‘Chico’ Qureshi, a 67-year-old Glasgow restaurateur, is competing in bowls at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, having lived in the city for more than 50 years. His participation highlights the Games’ local connections and the personal stories behind international representation, as he returns to compete in a second home Games after appearing in 2014.

Qureshi, who runs the Alishan Tandoori and plays at Glasgow Indoor Bowling Club, lost his opening Group C match to Wales’ Ross Owen 12-5, 17-0 but has four matches remaining. He is due to face Scotland’s Jason Banks on Friday at 14:45; Banks, a former world number one and regular customer of Qureshi’s restaurant, joked that he would avoid eating there before the match.
