## Key points

- Thomas Markle faces one federal possession charge.
- He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

## Summary

New details in the case say agents seized about 78 items suspected of containing child sexual abuse material from two storage units in the Los Angeles area. Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s 82-year-old estranged father, was arrested in Florida on Friday and charged with possession; the allegations have not been proven.

The US Justice Department said the items included slides, film negatives and books, and alleged some photographs showed Markle with prepubescent girls. He was due to appear in court in Tampa on Friday and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Meghan said last month she was deeply distressed by the allegations and had blocked contact between her father and her children.
