## Key points

- Thomas Jr reported alleged images to US authorities.
- Filipino police are investigating and preparing to seize evidence.
- Samantha Markle disputes the claims and says the computers were out of her father’s control.

## Summary

Thomas Markle Snr is being investigated after his son, Thomas Jr, told authorities he found hundreds of child sexual abuse images in boxes linked to his father’s home in Cebu, the Philippines. Police there are investigating and preparing to seize the material, while the allegations have reignited tensions within the family and drawn attention to Meghan Markle’s estrangement from her father.

Thomas Jr said he discovered the boxes while looking for a mobile phone and reported the material to US authorities and Pennsylvania state police on 10 July. His sister Samantha disputes his account, saying the computers had been packed in Mexico, stored in the Philippines and outside their father’s possession for two years; she alleges her brother made the claims for money and says the devices could have been tampered with. The article does not report that the investigation has established who owned or placed the material.
