HBO has ordered a five-part limited drama, ‘The Trial of Louise Woodward’, with Meghann Fahy set to play the British au pair at the centre of the 1997 case. The series will revisit a trial that attracted intense attention in Britain and the United States, examining its continuing relevance to debates about childcare, class, working mothers and round-the-clock media coverage.

Matthew Barry will write, executive produce and serve as showrunner, while Susanne Bier will direct all five episodes and executive produce; the series is due to premiere in 2027. It will be produced with Big Light Productions, whose founder Frank Spotnitz is among the executive producers, and marks Fahy’s return to HBO after her Emmy-nominated role in ‘The White Lotus’.
