## Key points

- A six-day truce enabled aid and civilian departures from Oleshky.
- Melania Trump will host Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House.
- Wider Russia-Ukraine talks are due to resume in Abu Dhabi on 10 and 11 November.

## Summary

Melania Trump will host Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House to discuss a six-day ceasefire and humanitarian mission in Oleshky, an occupied town in Ukraine’s Kherson region. The event comes as efforts to restart wider peace talks continue, and the White House says the first lady initiated the engagement.

The ceasefire ended on Sunday after allowing emergency aid into Oleshky and giving civilians the option to leave for Ukrainian-controlled territory or Russia. A Ukrainian official said Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova and Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Lubinets are expected to attend; Lantratova is under US sanctions and would need a waiver to enter the country. A report in Le Monde said military intelligence agencies negotiated the operation over four months, while the White House credited Melania Trump; Russia and the US said wider talks will resume in Abu Dhabi on 10 and 11 November.
