Melinda French Gates surprised the crowd at Olivia Rodrigo's inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California, pledging to match the $10 million already raised at the event, doubling the total to $20 million for women-focused charities. The philanthropist and former wife of Bill Gates joined Rodrigo on stage during her headlining set, praising the singer for using her platform to empower women and girls, and hailing the collective power of festivalgoers who supported the cause.

The $20 million will be split equally among ten organisations, including Baby2Baby, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, among others. Rodrigo, who conceived the festival in June and cited Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair as her inspiration, was joined on stage by McLachlan, Stevie Nicks and Alanis Morissette for duets, while acts including Chappell Roan, Garbage, Doechii and Bikini Kill performed for free throughout the day; girl group Katseye withdrew from its slot after a member suffered an ankle injury.
