Melissa Barrera says she would consider returning to the Scream franchise if its rights moved away from Spyglass Media Group. She remains fond of the series but says Spyglass executives never apologised after firing her in 2023 and accusing her of antisemitism over social-media posts about the Israel–Hamas conflict.

Spyglass dismissed Barrera in November 2023, citing a zero-tolerance policy towards antisemitism and hate speech. Her departure was followed by Jenna Ortega’s exit and director Christopher Landon’s withdrawal, while Neve Campbell returned for Scream 7, directed by original writer Kevin Williamson; the film has also faced protests and boycott calls.
