Dozens of mourners gathered at Sheffield Cathedral to celebrate the life of Shanice Brookes, a 30-year-old mother-of-one who was shot dead outside a bar during a night out. Police described her as "an innocent bystander" killed in the early hours of 25 May near the One Four One bar on West Street, and her death has led to charges against two men and the arrest of three others.

The memorial service, led by the Dean of Sheffield, Abi Thompson, featured a reading of the poem She's Gone and the song For Good from the musical Wicked. Brookes, who had a 10-year-old son, volunteered for the charity Zest and was close to finishing a degree at Sheffield College. Jemele Rhone has been charged with her murder, along with firearm and criminal property offences, while Deiryen Dyce faces charges including assisting an offender and drug supply. Both are yet to enter a plea, with a provisional trial date set for 4 January 2027.
