He stepped away from the oche looking unsteady and was guided off stage by Smith and the referee before receiving medical attention backstage.

The PDC said Menzies experienced high blood pressure, which made him feel dizzy and caused him to faint; medics later deemed him well enough to return to his accommodation rather than the stage, and the match was awarded to Smith 2-1. Elsewhere in Wednesday's action, world number three Gian van Veen edged past fellow Dutchman Wessel Nijman 14-12 in a tie-break thriller to reach the quarter-finals, with Gerwyn Price v Rob Cross and James Wade v Ryan Searle still to be completed.
