Meryl Streep, Colman Domingo, Bill Hader Join ‘Lincoln in the Bardo’ Animated Cast for Starburns Industries (Exclusive)

The Hollywood Reporter · 7 hours ago

Meryl Streep, Colman Domingo, Bill Hader and Tom Waits have joined the voice cast of "Lincoln in the Bardo," a hybrid stop-motion animation and live-action feature from Starburns Industries. The film, directed by Duke Johnson from a George Saunders-penned adaptation of his own best-selling novel, explores President Abraham Lincoln's grief following the death of his 11-year-old son, Willie, and adds further star power to a project that already features Tom Hanks in the live-action lead role.

Streep will voice four characters, including an Angel and a Demon within the "bardo" (a liminal afterlife realm), while Domingo, Hader and Waits take on ghostly roles such as a former slave seeking union with Lincoln and spirits attempting to trap Willie's soul. They join previously announced cast members Willem Dafoe, Jonathan Bailey and Peter Dinklage. Johnson, Paul Young and Devon Young Rabinowitz produce for Starburns Industries alongside Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone, with sales being handled by CAA Media Finance and WME Independent ahead of TIFF: The Market.
