Meta is reportedly developing a new pair of smart glasses, codenamed Luna, that will not include a camera, according to The Information. The move appears aimed at attracting cautious buyers amid growing privacy concerns about Meta's existing camera-equipped smart glasses, which critics have dubbed "pervert glasses" over fears they could be used to secretly film or harass people.

Luna could be unveiled at Meta's Connect developer conference on 23–24 September and might start shipping as early as October, coming in two styles called Clubmaster and Burbank. In place of a camera, the device will feature six built-in microphones and ear-facing speakers to let users interact with Meta's AI assistant via a side button, and will have slimmer temples for a more conventional look. Meta's current glasses include a blinking LED to signal recording, but loopholes allowing users to disable or cover it were only patched with updates as recently as August, contributing to the negative reputation Luna is intended to help overcome.
