## Key points

- Miami updated Dwyane Wade’s statue two years after its unveiling.
- The revised sculpture looks more like Wade, but is still criticised.
- The original statue’s viral reaction may outlast the redesign.

## Summary

The Miami Heat have updated their statue of Dwyane Wade, two years after the original drew widespread attention for looking little like the basketball star. The team described the changes as “enhancements”; the article says the revised sculpture is more recognisable, though it remains underwhelming.

The piece places Wade’s statue among other much-criticised sports sculptures, including ones of Cristiano Ronaldo and Allen Iverson. It gives no measurements or further details about the work, and suggests the original may remain memorable because of the reaction it provoked.
